Beet -Yellow Giant

This variety was originally developed as a forage beet for livestock and can get very large. We have grown it up to 50 pounds in a heap of compost. It can be picked early as a small beet for eating and pickling. Original seed came from our good Amish friend Henry Hershberger.

Start seeds in cell packs in a very well drained seedling starting mix. Water gently, do not let dry out. Can be planted out end of May when the soil warms and is moist. Beets will not do very well planted out in dry hot soil. Plant in fertile soil with plenty of compost. Competition beets are very hungry plants. Mulch with straw to moderate the soil temperature, keep the weeds down and reduce moisture loss.

Each packet contains 25 seeds @ $9.95 each
