Peppers usually take so much time to get started as transplants and to grow to maturity even in the best of our summers. We have come to enjoy an array of colors and tastes by careful cultivar selection. Always start seeds early, we usually start in February and plant out transplants only when the soil warms up, June 10th on our farm.
TIP: Take time to separate the hot peppers varieties from the sweet peppers, they will cross. For seed production, we isolate each variety in a separate garden hundreds of feet apart. For small gardens, peppers with different maturity dates can help to keep the varieties true but not a guarantee..
