Bloodroot-Sanguinaria canadensis

Sanguinaria canadensis, bloodroot, is a perennial herbaceous flowering plant that grows in the shade under large deciduous trees.

Sanguinaria canadensis is also known as "Canada Puccoon, redroot, and black paste" . The root is poisonous! It has been used in skin creams to treat skin cancer.

It is on the endangered list, we grow ours in our nursery. The picture below was taken late April. The flowers appear first and the leaves unfold afterward. Seeds are sometimes hard to collect due to ants carrying away the fruit & seed.

The rootlets are naturally small.

Dug and shipped in spring 2024.
