Permaculture- Permanent agriculture and perennial gardening systems

On Oct. 15th, 2020, the Toronto Star newspaper wrote an article "A road map to save the earth" suggesting as much as 30% of farmland be put back into Conservation, that would be permaculture applications for farming and forestry. Farmers must be prepared for this swift change. The fallout will be a green revolution leaving industrial and conventional methods in the dust.

The Bonn Challenge has a global goal to bring 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested landscapes into restoration by 2020 and 350 million hectares by 2030. Launched by the Government of Germany and IUCN in 2011, the Challenge surpassed the 150-million-hectare milestone for pledges in 2017.

Prince Charles addressed the New York 2020 Climate Week and stated the we we're "in crisis" "the global pandemic is a wake up call" " Time for a Marshall like plan" and "we must put ourselves on a war-like footing".

What does restoration mean? Restoration will mean permaculture applications and conservation reserves.

"Permaculture is a set of design principles centered on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilizing the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems. It uses these principles in a growing number of fields such as regenerative agriculturerewilding, and community resilience.

The term permaculture was coined in 1978 by Bill Mollison, senior lecturer in Environmental Psychology at University of Tasmania, and David Holmgren, then a graduate student at the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education's Department of Environmental Design. It originally meant "permanent agriculture", but was expanded to stand also for "permanent culture", since social aspects were integral to a truly sustainable system as inspired by Masanobu Fukuoka's natural farming philosophy.

It has many branches including ecological designecological engineeringregenerative designenvironmental design, and construction. Permaculture also includes integrated water resources management that develops sustainable architecture, and regenerative and self-maintained habitat and agricultural systems modelled from natural ecosystems."
