Anti viral & respiratory fighting herbs

Herbs have been used for thousands of years to fight virus, flues, colds and to generally promote overall health and well being.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine and Ancient Greek Physician in his wisdom, "let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food".

The Chinese had herbal medicine dating back thousands of years old that they still practice to this very day, the East Indian had Ayurvedic medicine and the North American Indian had their secrets of native herbal remedies....just to name a few.

Many herbs are "Adaptogens" which means that they are able to enhance and build the immune system to resist stress such as an unfamiliar virus. Echinacea is one example of an adaptogen. This picture was taken of our Echinacea patch. The honeybees go crazy over the nectar and pollen producing cones. All parts of the plant can be made into medicine.

Other anti-viral herbs are Holy Basil, Elderberry, Dandelion, Chicory, Artemisia, Turkey Tail mushroom, Reishi mushroom, Olive leaf, Oregano, Lemon Balm, Ginger, Calendula, Burdock etc. just to name a few. Elecampane was used by the Algonquin and Cherokee for respiratory problems including asthma, the common cold and tuberculosis (TB). Scientists have confirmed that chemical properties in elecampane inhibit the bacterium that causes TB. A very good read "Secrets of Native American Herbal Remedies" by Anthony J. Cichoke, D.C. PhD. Highly recommended.

Many anti-viral herbs can also detoxify the liver such as the dandelion/chicory root or Milk Thistle seeds. They tune up the liver and the body to fight viral invaders.  Dandelion/chicory root can be consumed every day as a natural vegetable. Milk Thistle can actually help to regenerate and repair the liver, it can protect the liver from alcohol and treat problems such as hepatitis A & B.

Always do your research on herbs, not all are created equal.  Consult your physician especially if you are taking prescriptions or pregnant.

This site is an interesting read about Artemesia and Malaria? Food for thought:-)

Many other steps to your health and well-being....avoid too many processed foods, positive state of mind, meditation, vitamin C & D, pro-biotics for gut health-natural fermented foods, rest and good will.

Take control of your health.

God bless you.
