Escarole is shown front left in the picture taken in our greenhouse. This variety forms a large head with thick wavy leaves. It does better in hot weather than other varieties. Disease resistant for organic gardens. Matures in 90 days. The seed is pelleted for easy handling, great for the beginner gardener. Can be grown in the fall when other vegetables are fading.
Used as a wilted green in Italian Wedding soup and as a salad green.
Tip: Start seeds off as transplants. Sow in March and plant out mid May when the soil is cool and moist. Mulch with straw to control weeds and to moderate the soil.
